i discovered a surprise purchase yesterday, and had to cancel my
MasterCard. on December 9th, someone tried to register for teenyearbook.com (snigger)
with my account information. (hey, i download only the free porn!)
the plastic card is still in my wallet, so i need to determine if the security
breach originated with one of the vendors i've patronized, or a lost restaurant receipt.
fortunately, i have archived all my receipts back to 1994, so i have a short list of possibilities to consider.
my homework reveals that the third party
billing company, the leader in eTransactions, had actually identified the fraud
before i did, and had even issued a stop payment plus initiated a credit before my
telephone call to them. keen. however the $25 charge is still on my account and will
remain until the credit passes in "a week to 10 days." this seems to be a popular
answer; my bank says it'll take that long to get me a new MasterCard.
fighting for faster response was not worth my time here, so now i get to leave home
without it. this holiday season i must ride over the river and through the woods on travellers cheques and
cash. yay.
