Subject: dud article - journalistic winter
Greetings Mr. Coates
Your article RIDICULOUSLY HIGH FAILURE RATE HURTS TECH INDUSTRY'S IMAGE displays the irresponsibility
of the duds you criticize, and hurts journalism's image sufficiently that I'm compelled to complain.
It contains erroneous information. Isnt it funny that the quote you attributed to
Broadcast News is from the film
Network? Hint:
Peter Finch did not appear in
Broadcast News, Finch was too busy being dead. Was your editor asleep?
It contains spurious thought. Isnt it funny that 100% of your failed hardware
examples (REXX, iPAQ, and PowerBook G4, printers, scanners, and monitors) offer
primary functionality of storing and displaying information, not Internet
connectivity? This seems hardly appropriate to provoke the label "Internet Winter."
Dud web sites or modems provoke an Internet Winter? Yes. Dud hardware that may
neveror cannotconnect? Hardly.
Yes, you are apparently not an historian, but when you publish in the Trib, please be more of a journalist.
