Sonoma Fourth
For the Fourth of July weekend we drove to Sonoma to stay with Chris & Jen, and Dave & Nancy.
We were going to pitch tents in Jen’s parents’ yard, for some low-impact camping.
Gabriel was ready to go even before he finished breakfast.
The first hour of the ride north was sunny and bright, but at the Golden Gate bridge, there was not much to see.
Wth all that fog, mommy certainly didn't need her sunglasses any more ...
... so Gabe ate them.
On Independence Day, Gabe watched his first parade from mommy’s lap ...
... when he wasn't watching daddy.
Later that night we watched fireworks. The Sonoma display is particualrly good,
expecially for a smaller town. Big sparks and lot of them. After last year,
Deb decided we had to come back.
Before the show began, Daver and i did some stargazing with my new
telescope.
Jupiter was high and Saturn was low, with the moon in between.
It was good practice for our planned camping trip in late August, outside city light pollution,
during the week when Mars will be closer to Earth than ever before since the invention of the telescope.
Gabriel was a little scared when the explosions began, but he noticed right away that
mom and dad were not. Everyone seemed to be cheering sudden bright lights in the sky,
so before long Gabriel also shouted "Yayyy! with each burst. He cheered up to the end of the show.
A good time was had by all.
