today i went to a junkyard to help don
find a replacement drivers seat for his car. we found a seat in near-perfect condition
in a wreck that had suffered a front-end collision.
no one could get to it. we tried for ten minutes, but we could not remove
the drivers seat for don; there was no
space for even the smallest arm in the group to manage a wrench or screwdriver
between the drivers seat and the firewall.
while deb and don and pete tried all manner of contortions to get tools in place
to remove the seat, i had an epiphany. originally i thought it had been a two-door
Chevy Blazer, but in one of those strange moments of altered reality, the kind of
moment where the whole world shifts and you see the picture as the old lady
where at first there was just the maiden at her mirror, the Blazer changed.
i was looking at a 4-door vehicle. the windshield and driver's door were entirely
gone and the roof had been folded back over the rear seats to rescue the driver.
i suspect i will drive much more safely for a time.
